Chronic Pelvic Pain


Many women suffer with chronic pelvic pain or pain witin the lower abdomen, pelvis or vulva. It can be dull or sharp, cramping or stabbing, constant or intermittent, and it may be mild, moderate, or severe.

Chronic pelvic pain is any type of pain in the pelvis that has been present for more than a few months. When it affects quality of life or the ability to perform day-to day activities, it is important to let a health care provider know about the symptoms.

Chronic pelvic pain may involve multiple organ systems including:

  • Reproductive
  • Gastroenterologic
  • Urologic
  • Musculoskeletal
  • Neurologic
  • Psychologic
